Ativan (Lorazepam) - Purchase Online

Brand name: Ativan
Generic name: Lorazepam

Ativan (Lorazepam) belongs to benzodiazepines, a group of drugs that also includes Alprazolam (Xanax), Chlordiazepoxide (Librium), Clorazepate (Tranxene), Diazepam (Valium), or Oxazepam (Serax). Its generic name is Lorazepam. Ativan affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.

Ativan (Lorazepam) is used to treat anxiety, agitation and irritability, to relieve insomnia, to calm people with mania / schizophrenia and as a sedative and for nervous tension or to relieve anxiety prior to surgery. So, we may call it an anxiety relief agent. It is indicated for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, and anxiety associated with depression. Ativan is sometimes used as a sleeping agent, anti-convulsant, and alcohol detoxification.

Marketed as
  • Ativan 0.5mg - five-sided, white tablets with a raised "A" on one side
  • Ativan 1mg - five-sided, white tablets with a raised "A" on one side
  • Ativan 2mg - five-sided, white tablets with a raised "A" on one side

  • The use of benzodiazepines, including Ativan (Lorazepam), may be associated with side effects such as, drowsiness that can occur in up to 75% of the people taking benzodiazepines. Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Avoid alcohol while taking Ativan. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by Ativan. Alcohol may also increase the risk of a seizure if Ativan is being taken for a seizure condition.

    Side effects may include tremor, abdominal cramping, sweating, insomnia, and convulsions, fatigue, memory impairment, nausea, vomiting, constipation, blurred vision, sexual dysfunction, and decreased sexual drive. Ativan has also been shown to cause blood disorders. Ativan can cause decreased appetite (weight loss) in some people and increased appetite (weight gain) in others.

    Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Ativan (Lorazepam) and talk to your doctor if you experience
  • drowsiness, dizziness, or clumsiness;
  • depression;
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation;
  • difficulty urinating;
  • vivid dreams;
  • headache;
  • dry mouth;
  • decreased sex drive; or
  • changes in behavior.

  • Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

    Among benzodiazepines, Ativan (Lorazepam) has relatively strong amnesic effects, but patients soon develop tolerance to this with regular use. To avoid amnesia (or excess sedation) being a problem, the initial total daily lorazepam dose should not exceed 2 mg.

    Ativan may be habit forming. Physical and/or psychological dependence can occur, and withdrawal effects are possible if the medication is stopped suddenly after prolonged or high-dose treatment.

    Do not take more than the prescribed amount of medication or take it for longer than is directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking Ativan suddenly without first talking to your doctor if you have been taking it continuously for more than 5 to 7 days. Your doctor may want to gradually reduce the dose.

    Do not take Ativan if you have narrow-angle glaucoma. Ativan may worsen this condition.

    Before taking Ativan, tell your doctor if you
  • have kidney disease;
  • have liver disease;
  • have asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or another respiratory disease; or
  • are depressed or have suicidal thoughts.

  • Ativan (Lorazepam) is in the FDA pregnancy category D. This means that Ativan is known to be harmful to an unborn baby. Ativan passes into breast milk. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment or if you are breast-feeding a baby.

    Take Ativan exactly as prescribed.

    Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication. A double dose could be dangerous.

    Ativan may increase the effects of other drugs that cause drowsiness, including antidepressants, alcohol, antihistamines, sedatives (used to treat insomnia), pain relievers, anxiety medicines, seizure medicines, and muscle relaxants. Tell your doctor about all medicines that you are taking, and do not take any medicine without first talking to your doctor.

    Patients are ideally nursed in a kind, non-frustrating environment since, when given or taken in high doses, benzodiazepines are more likely to cause paradoxical reactions, such as increased hostility and aggression, which is thought to be at least partially due to disinhibition. It is more likely to occur with higher doses, in patients with pre-existing personality disorders and those with a psychiatric illness. Since paradoxical effects are dose-related they usually subside on dose reduction or complete withdrawal of Ativan.

    Benzodiazepines may inadvertently become facilitators of suicidal behaviour. Ativan should therefore not be prescribed alone in depression but only together with an appropriate antidepressant and at the minimal dose required.
