Esgic is a pain reliever and relaxant. It is used to treat tension headaches. It acts in the central nervous system. Esgic is a compound medication. Its various brands or forms may differ in composition and, as a rsult, have slightly different effects. E.g., Esgic Plus contains 500 miligrams of acetaminophen, instead of 325 milligrams. Additionally, Esgic Plus contains 40 milligrams of caffeine.
Butalbital has a depressant effect that reduces anxiety and causes relaxation. Acetaminophen works in the brain to relieve pain. Caffeine may work by constricting blood vessels that may cause headaches. Butalbital has half-life of about 35 hours. Acetaminophen half-life is 1.25 to 3 hours, but may be increased by liver damage and following overdosage. Caffeine half-life is about 3 hours.
